When does a coroner need to be notified?
- If the death is sudden
- If the deceased had not seen a doctor within the two weeks before their death
- If the death can be linked to surgery, the use of anaesthetic or a workplace accident, no matter how long ago
- If there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, or concerns of suicide
- If the deceased is 18 or under
- Deaths that occur within 24 hours of an admission to hospital
- Any death of an individual who was in custody or detained under the Mental Health Act, even if it was due to natural causes
- If cause of death can be related to asbestosis
- Certain medical conditions
